This is a championship course designed by reown Australian course architect Ross Watson. It had been awarded to host the Iskandar Open and many big names were competiting on this very ground. Fast greens and fairways are always in mint condition all year round, this is one popular quality course that you cannot miss.
You can get the course layout and scorecard from the link below.

However, i will share my golfing experience here. For those first timers, u might wanna have a look at the design and plan ur game prior to ur bets with ur golf kakis. Hope this helps :) Happy golfing !
HOLE 1, PAR 4 INDEX 11
Unlike many courses, the opening hole at Horizon Hills is anything but easy. The tee shot is played blind onto a wide-looking elevated landing area heavily guarded on the left by fairway bunkers. This is one of several holes at Horizon Hills where the green is not visible from the tee. The biggest obstacle is the fairway bunkers and mounds that actually sit on a straight path towards the green. Big hitters should be able to carry the bunkers but for the first-timer, playing to the right is the safer route. The green is slightly elevated and well guarded with bunkers on both sides. The surface is well contoured and as is the case with most of the greens here, full concentration is needed to avoid three putts or more.
- 370 metres (gold)
- 346 metres (blue)
- 325 metres (white)
- 309 metres (red)
HOLE 2, PAR 5 INDEX: 1
After completing this hole you will understand why it is ranked as the toughest at Horizon Hills. A creek lurks dangerously close to the narrow fairway along the entire left side and it then bisects just beyond the landing area. If the tee shot is poorly executed, this hole then almost plays like a Par 6! Even a good tee shot does not guarantee par or better here because the second shot has to carry the same creek that now bisects the fairway again further ahead. You will need an extra club in order to find an elevated green that is heavily guarded on the right with deep bunkers. A popular pin placement here usually brings the bunkers into play and scores of eight, nine and even 10 are to be expected. Score a bogey and walk away like you’ve made birdie!
- 506 metres (gold)
- 488 metres (blue)
- 472 metres (white)
- 427 metres (red)
This is a challenging dog leg left par 5, with 2 water hazards to cross. From blue tee, a tee shot of more than 210 might land u in the first hazard. Hence long hitters will have to lay up instead.
2nd shot
Before the first hazard , u will need 140-180m to cross the 2nd water hazard. The furthest to cross will be the left side, hence its better to attack the right side bunker direction to cross. Else, laying up will be about 80-120m.
3rd shot
The green is surrounded by bunkers mostly on the right hence a safer attacking direction will be left of bunker.
HOLE 3, PAR 3 INDEX: 15
Ross Watson reminds us of yet another example of his ingenuity with this first of four very different yet interesting Par Threes. This hole is carved out of a natural amphitheatre and is bordered on the left and beyond the green by matured trees. A pond lurks on the right but it only comes into play on sliced shots off the tee. The green entices you to hit good shots but putting here can be a disastrous affair depending on where the pin is placed. The middle of the green rises to form a little plateau and take extra precaution if the cup is cut here.
- 173 metres (gold)
- 157 metres (blue)
- 141 metres (white)
- 132 metres (red)
This par 3 is downhill surrounded by bunkers . Green is fast and undulating, making this this a more difficult par 3.
HOLE 4, PAR 4 INDEX: 17
This has got to be one of Watson’s finer creations. From the elevated teebox, the golfer will spend a little more time taking in the dramatic view down towards a fairway that doglegs right with water lurking all the way past a relatively small green. A typical risk-reward hole, long hitters will attempt to cut as much of the hazard in order to afford a wedge onto a green that is not too receptive to long irons. Pot bunkers on three sides of the green make this hole that much tougher, belying its high index of 17. This is one of Horizon Hill’s signature holes.
- 330 metres (gold)
- 320 metres (blue)
- 295 metres (white)
- 275 metres (red)
Green is guarded by bunkers left right and front.
HOLE 5, PAR 4 INDEX: 13
This is a great golf hole that demands course management all the way! Bunkers split the fairway in half, forcing long hitters to aim down the left and avoiding the lateral water hazard that flows all the way behind the green. This is the best play as it provides a shorter approach to a very difficult green that has a false front. The safer route right of the fairway bunkers will demand a longer iron but a lay-up would be the preferred option especially when you have to contend with the demanding green. Watson spared no lives when designing his greens and the fifth is no different. Heavily contoured in the middle and to the right, the green slopes towards the back left and any overcooked chip shots will end up in the water.
- 355 metres (gold)
- 339 metres (blue)
- 324 metres (white)
- 291 metres (red)
Water spans all the way left of fairway to the green. This hole has many fairway bunkers left and right.
Note that an overhit 2nd shot will end up in water.
HOLE 6, PAR 5 INDEX: 5
Reaching the green in three should not be difficult for most medium to low handicapped players although there is some premium on the tee shot that has to avoid a cluster of bunkers and mounds on the left at the landing area. Badly sliced shots will end up in a lateral water hazard. The safest route is usually the straightest, towards a fairway that is flanked on both sides by ramnants of a rainforest. From here the hole slopes down towards a picturesque valley with water on the left. A solid second shot will leave you with an golden opportunity to attack an elevated green that is protected by deep, large bunkers on both sides. The pin position could decide between a birdie and a bogey.
- 502 metres (gold)
- 477metres (blue)
- 455 metres (white)
- 427 metres (red)
HOLE 7, PAR 4 INDEX: 3
One of the toughest holes at Horizon Hills. It has length and a very elevated and contoured green surrounded by deep bunkers. The challenge starts as early as the tee shot. From the tee box you may not be able to sight the fairway and only get a glimpse of a bunker mounding. The line of attack on this somewhat blind hole is left of this bunker where the fairway opens up generously. However, many may opt to play to the right but they will get suckered into the rough and sometimes barren hill slopes. Once again, Watson keeps the golfer on his toes even at the finishing line and this is another green not to be taken lightly. A good drive, an accurate long iron and two smart putts are needed to save par. Otherwise, laying up before the green will take the greenside bunkers out of play and a bogey or better can be expected.
- 406 metres (gold)
- 383 metres (blue)
- 361 metres (white)
- 330 metres (red)
HOLE 8, PAR 3 INDEX: 9
Watson scores well with all his Par Threes at Horizon Hills. In fact, he creates these short holes to provide maximum entertainment in the form of great challenges. The only way to score well here is to go for the green which means a carry of at least 158 metres over water. If there is no wind. However for the faint-hearted there is plenty of bail-out area on the right. This is one of those holes that could destroy all the good work put in earlier in the round.
- 173 metres (gold)
- 160 metres (blue)
- 150 metres (white)
- 135 metres (red)
HOLE 9, PAR 4 INDEX: 7
Another masterpiece by Watson. This hole is tough because it is played uphill with various deep bunkers scattered along the way to increase the challenge. The hole is doglegged left uphill but the wiser route would be to aim right of centre to afford a better view of a green that is well guarded by bunkers. Even after a good long drive, there is little room for mistakes when attacking the green as the forward right bunkers come into play. Par here is a good score. The fairway is nicely contoured and you get various lies as you prepare for your next shot.
- 371 metres (gold)
- 350 metres (blue)
- 330 metres (white)
- 308 metres (red)
This is also a blind hole . Its a dog leg left design and only a long solid accurate drive will land u in a good view of attacking the uphill pin with a wedge. The deep right bunkers are guarding the green and attacking slighly left would be a wiser option.
